It’s great when one reading raises a question that another answers.
There were certainly times in my life that this psalm would have infuriated me. “Blessed are all who wait for the Lord.”? I’m tired of waiting. Injustice flourishes, in our broken church and our broken world.
The ‘ministry of my heart’, that which is deeply precious to me, is ministry for and with the LBGTQ+ community. It is a ministry full of joy, and also one that makes me constantly aware that our world is broken by sin, and far far away from the kingdom of God. I am tired of waiting for God to transform our world.
But of course, the Gospel today instructs me that it is not for me to stand idly by and wait. It is my call to labor, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. To share the love of God I have received and experienced and known with all the sheep that have been abandoned, often my fellow members of the LGBTQ+ community.
While I try and be patient for the world to become closer to the perfect human family that God desires for us, I don’t wait idly. I dig in my heels, and I share what I have in the hopes of building a better world.
